Depression is a mental health disorder characterized by a persistent and difficult to manage sadness. It is a complicated mental health disorder and is caused by a chemical imbalance in the brain. Having depression is a common risk factor for suicide. It's important to understand and recognize depression so that you can take steps to treat it.

The Adolescent Depression Awareness Program (ADAP) is a program developed by Johns Hopkins University to educate young people about the signs and symptoms of depression and how to address those signs and symptoms safely. "13 Reasons Why" is a Netflix series that premiered in March 2017. The show quickly gained popularity among teens however it also inadvertently sensationalized suicide and could be especially triggering for some audiences. Since its premier, many discussions have been had and resources created to help families process the events that occur in the series in a safe way.
